For 2019, the Touring and Grand Touring trims go with the larger and more powerful 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, which produces 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. The engines are either paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Mazda3 uses a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout.

Upper-level trims are more likely to get additions or enhancements such as blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Smart city brake support is new for 2019, and it is exclusive on the top-level Grand Touring trim.
